How to Convert HEIC to JPG
HEIC (HEIF) is the default photo format on iPhones since iOS 11 — smaller files, but poor compatibility: many websites, Windows PCs, and messaging apps can't open or accept it. InkStu's HEIC to JPG converter uses a libheif decoding engine that runs entirely in your browser, so photos are never uploaded. It supports .heic and .heif files and outputs JPG (small, universally compatible) or PNG (lossless), preserving the original resolution. Batch-friendly, watermark-free, and completely free. After converting, use the Image Compressor if you need smaller files.
HEIC to JPG FAQ
What is HEIC and why can't I open it?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default iPhone photo format since iOS 11 — about half the size of JPG but only natively supported in the Apple ecosystem and some newer systems. Windows, older Android devices, and most website upload forms don't accept it, so converting to JPG is the practical fix.
Will converting reduce quality?
JPG output applies mild lossy compression (default quality 92, adjustable); PNG output is fully lossless. Since iPhone HEIC is itself lossy, the JPG conversion difference is virtually invisible.
Are photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Decoding and conversion run locally in your browser. The first use loads a ~2MB wasm decoding engine, cached afterwards.
Can I convert Live Photos and bursts?
A Live Photo converts to its key frame as a still image; burst shots need to be exported individually and converted one by one or in batches.
Is EXIF metadata preserved?
JPG output usually keeps most EXIF data; PNG output drops it. Choose JPG if you need shooting dates preserved.
